Otter Creek Park dedicates new Splashpad

Thursday May 22, 2008

Thousands of area residents have flocked to Otter Creek Park over the years for the multitude of recreational opportunities and abundant natural wonders that exist in the 2,600-acre park, which is set along the Ohio River in Meade County, Ky.

With the May 24 dedication of a newly constructed “Splashpad,” visitors have yet another reason to visit Otter Creek, which sits outside of the city limits but is owned and operated by Metro Parks. The 2,000 square-foot water play area features two geysers, a tower, two water cannons and a flower that spritzes a refreshing mist across a large section of the Splashpad. Pace Contracting, LLC installed the Splashpad, which represented a $164,000 investment by Metro Parks.

“The Splashpad is yet another amenity at Otter Creek that we’re very proud of,” Director Mike Heitz said. “It’s a fantastic feature for families who visit the park. Parents can take their children hiking on the park’s scenic trails, and on a hot summer day, it’s going to be the perfect way for them to cool off afterward.”

Councilman Bob Henderson, D-14, joined Heitz at the dedication. A revamped picnic pavilion was also introduced on Saturday.

“This is the time to get out and enjoy a wonderful place like Otter Creek which is yet another of our fine parks operated by the city,” Henderson said. Otter Creek Park is located at 850 Otter Creek Park Road, 25 miles south of Louisville, along U.S. 31 near Brandenburg.
