Swimming Pool Shuttle Service Canceled
Tuesday June 10, 2008
Metro Parks has cancelled service for a free summer swimming pool shuttle that had been operating since Memorial Day weekend.
The shuttle made daily trips from pools that had been closed through a consolidation plan, to outdoor pools that remain in service. Use remained low, with a few riders boarding on most days at Shelby Park. Those riders will be offered an opportunity to attend a summer day camp at Shelby Park Community Center, where field trips take participants to outdoor pools a couple times each week.
"Knowing that the pool consolidation effort would impact some of our citizens living near a closed pool, we wanted to offer them a chance to attend a nearby pool," said Mike Heitz, director of Metro Parks. "What we found was that people are transporting themselves to the remaining pools. Attendance has noticeably risen at pools in Algonquin Park and Camp Taylor Park."
The shuttle service will operate through Wednesday, June 11. Signs will be posted at each shuttle stop, advising park users of the change.
