Metro Parks Gearing Up for Holiday Season With Numerous Holiday-Themed Events

Families who are looking for affordable family entertainment during the holiday season will find many fun and inexpensive options through Metro Parks.

“Everyone is well aware of the economic troubles families are facing in this area,” Metro Parks Director Mike Heitz said. “We want residents to think of us during the holiday season and know we’re working to provide them with quality programming at a minimal cost.”

Saturday, December 6 – “Light Up Petersburg Park.” Event begins at 6 p.m. Free.

Through Sunday, December 7 – “Museum Store Sale,” Historic Locust Grove. Customers will receive 20 percent off all purchases in the
Museum Store. For more information, call 897-9845.

Thursday, December 11 – “Santa’s Workshop.” Beechmont Community Center, 6-8 p.m. Free. For more information, call 502/361-5484.

Friday, December 12 – “Light Up Highview Park.” Event begins at 6 p.m. Free.

Friday, December 12 – “Children’s Holiday Party,” Sun Valley Community Center. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Pictures with Santa, arts and crafts, cookie decorating and more. Free. For more information, call 502/937-8802.

Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13 – “Historic Locust Grove Candlelight Tours.” 5:30-9 p.m. both nights. $8 for general admission, $4 for children 6-12, free to children under 6.

Saturday, December 13 – “Breakfast With Santa,” Douglass Community Center. 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Program is for ages 10 and under, and costs $2 to attend. For more information, call 502/456-8120.

Sunday, December 14 – “Winter of the Big Snow,” Historic Locust Grove. Chamber concert by the Locust Grove Chamber Musicians. Refreshments at 5 p.m.; the concert will follow in Locust Grove’s Ballroom at 5:30 p.m. Individual concert tickets $20.

Wednesday, December 17 – “Senior Holiday Party,” Wilderness Road Senior Center. Noon. Attendees are encouraged to bring a covered dish, and there is a $1 fee to attend. For more information, call 502/964-5151.

Thursday, December 18 – “Senior Holiday Party,” Sun Valley Community Center. Begins at 10:30 a.m. Free. Dancing, bingo and other activities.

Saturday, December 20 – “Breakfast With Santa,” Baxter Community Center. 10 a.m-1 p.m. Free. Attendees should be those ages 13 and under and their parents. For more information, call 502/574-2670.

Saturday, December 20 – “Holiday Breakfast,” Southwick Community Center. 10 a.m.-Noon. Free. For more information, call 502/775-6598.

Tuesday, December 23 – “Holiday Party,” Shawnee Community Center. 2-4 p.m. Free. For more information, call 502/775-5268.

Tuesday, December 30 – “Dive-In Movies,” Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center. Free. “Wall-E” will be shown at 1:15 p.m., and “Kung Fu Panda”
