Sun Valley Swimming Pool Re-Opens Earlier than Expected

Saturday May 31, 2008

Officials had Expected Repairs to Keep Pool Closed until Wednesday

After making temporary repairs more quickly than first expected, Metro Parks re-opened the swimming pool in Sun Valley Park at noon on Saturday.  The pool closed for one day after a system that controls the pump’s motor failed.

“We thought the pool was going to be down until Wednesday of next week, but some creative thinking and hard work allowed us to make a temporary repair that will keep the pool in service for a few days, until a new part arrives,” said Jerry Brown, assistant director of Metro Parks.  “We’re very happy we found a solution that didn’t require us to keep the Sun Valley pool closed until replacement parts were available. The defective part will be replaced during the pool’s regularly scheduled ‘down day’ on Tuesday.”

The replacement part, which was not available locally, will cost $1,300.

Sun Valley Park’s swimming pool is located at 6505 Bethany Lane, next to the Sun Valley Community Center.  The swimming pool is 56 years old.
