Mayor Abramson announces improvements at Blue Lick Park
Tuesday June 23, 2009
Okolona area residents can enjoy new recreational opportunities, thanks to $205,000 in improvements completed in Blue Lick Park.
The park features a new asphalt walking path with benches, a new swingset, new bench-style swings, resurfaced basketball and tennis courts, a resurfaced and restriped parking lot, and a new drinking fountain.
A new $51,000 playground was added in 2006.
“Our City of Parks initiative isn’t just focused on adding new parks – it’s also about improving the many neighborhood parks we already have,” said Mayor Jerry Abramson. “We're making a real difference with improvements like these in Blue Lick Park.”
Most of the funding for the improvements was provided by Abramson, with support from Metro Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D-24). Flood provided $47,500 from her capital improvement fund. Work took place over the last six months.
“Blue Lick Park is already a wonderful place for families and those who just want to enjoy a nice quiet place during any time of day,” Flood said. “These improvements will promote a healthy lifestyle and at the same time be an invitation to newcomers to the park to experience what so many people already enjoy.”
Since merger, Metro Parks has completed 271 capital projects worth $38.5 million. An additional 65 projects are underway.
Blue Lick Park is a 26-acre park located at 4114 Mudd Ln. It was created in 1977.
