Sixth Annual Forest Fest to Feature "Dailey and Vincent"

Wednesday May 5, 2010

A spectacular day of Bluegrass music, food, crafters, vendors and youth activities in the scenic environment of America’s largest municipal forest awaits those who visit Jefferson Memorial Forest’s sixth annual Forest Fest on Saturday, May 15. The concert is free, but parking is $5 per carload.

“We’ve been bringing bluegrass fans great music in the beautiful surroundings of Jefferson Memorial Forest for six years, and this year’s lineup is strong once again,” said Mayor Jerry Abramson. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring the family out for some top-notch bluegrass music and a lot of fun.”

Four bands will perform live music, beginning at noon in the forest’s Horine Section. Jeri Katherine Howell, Blue River, and Earl Bull with Clinch Valley Bluegrass will serve as the opening acts for Award-winning Bluegrass stars Dailey and Vincent. Their latest CD, “Dailey and Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers” is at the top of Billboard Magazine’s bluegrass chart. For bios on the bands and more information, visit www.memorialforest.com/forestfest.

“The 6th annual Forest Fest will soon be here for those who love Bluegrass music and want to spend a great afternoon in a very special place here in southwest Jefferson County,” said Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13). “If you have not yet come out to see our Forest, this is a perfect chance to experience its beauty, hear some great music as well as hike some magnificent trails.”

Welch once again serves as the presenting sponsor. Councilmembers Bob Henderson, Madonna Flood, Rick Blackwell, Robin Engel, Tina Ward-Pugh, Brent Ackerson, Jon Ackerson, James Peden, Mary Woolridge, Dr. Judith Green and Dan Johnson have also provide support for this event. Other sponsors include Dairy Queen, the Fairdale Pic Pac and Fresh Market, Fairdale-McDaniel Funeral Home, The Café, Furniture Liquidators and ISA Recycling.
