Eva Bandman Park to be closed through Oct. 20
Thursday October 7, 2010
Eva Bandman Park, located along River Road east of downtown Louisville, will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. today through October 20 as crews put the finishing touches on Louisville’s new cyclo-cross course.
The 59-acre park will host America’s first permanent, major-city cyclo-cross facility. Working with local cyclo-cross enthusiasts, Louisville Metro Government is developing a venue that can support local races and youth riding programs, while also hosting national and international races. The course at Eva Bandman will serve as a home for US Gran Prix (USGP) races and as a year-round cycling park.
USA Cycling announced in January the park was chosen by the Union Cycliste Internationale, cycling's international governing body, to host the 2013 Elite Cyclo-cross World Championships and the 2012 and 2013 Masters Cyclo-cross World Championships – the first time those races have ever been held outside of Europe.
In addition to completing construction of the track, crews will be doing landscape work throughout the park. A formal dedication of the new cyclo-cross track is expected to come in late October.
