Metro Parks Hosts Nazarene Youth Conference Volunteers
Community Service Projects will Benefit Six Metro Parks
NYC (Nazarene Youth Conference) takes place at the International Convention Center (KICC) and Downtown Arena this year. Metro Parks will host a portion of the clean-up and service projects scheduled during the event’s “Day of Service” in Louisville.
NYC is an event put on every four years to give students aged 14-17 an opportunity to engage in faith based activities, community projects and leadership workshops. The NYC is the second largest event sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene.
There will be approximately 5,500 youth volunteers traveling from all over the nation to attend the NYC the entire week, July 5-10, 2011. On July 6th, their day of service, volunteers will be working with more than 130 organizations, including Metro Parks.
Approximately 340 volunteers will focus their efforts at the following sites: Caperton Swamp, Cox Park, Thurman Hutchins, Petersburg Park, Central Park and Cherokee Park from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Youth volunteers will be doing various painting, mulching and litter pick-up throughout the six Metro Parks locations.
“It is wonderful to see so many young people taking the initiative to make a difference in their lives and our community,” said Metro Parks Director Mike Heitz. “Metro Parks appreciates the hard work from the NYC volunteers and cannot stress enough the difference their efforts make.”
