June 30th public meeting to discuss parks name changes
Wednesday May 25, 2011
Two Metro Parks will become incorporated into The Parklands of Floyds Fork, the nearly 4,000-acre parks system being created and managed by 21st
Century Parks. Officials with 21st
Century Parks and Metro Parks are seeking public input on a name change of two Metro Parks and regarding the project at a public meeting on Wednesday, June 30 at 6 p.m. at the Floyd's Fork Park Community Center, 4002 South Pope Lick Road.
Through a management agreement with Metro Parks, the operations and maintenance of these properties transitioned 21st
Century Parks on Jan. 1, 2011. According to officials, the move will streamline the operations and programming for the two parks, which otherwise would have been managed by two different entities. The two name changes are part of an overall park management plan for 21st
Century Parks that includes a naming plan for the major parks and parks facilities.
The two proposed name changes are:
- Miles Park, 15712 Shelbyville Road – William F. Miles Lakes at Beckley Creek Park
- Floyds Fork Park, 4002 S. Pope Lick Road - The Floyds Fields at Pope Lick Park
