Ohio River flooding concerns result in Thunder viewing, parking adjustments
Thursday April 14, 2011
Because of safety concerns related to the rise of the Ohio River through Saturday’s Thunder Over Louisville festival, Metro Parks is making the following adjustments:
- The boat ramps at Carrie Gaulbert Cox and Riverview parks will be closed throughout the weekend. Officials have determined dangerously high water conditions and safety concerns on the Ohio River.
- Cox Park is closed to all vehicular traffic due to flooding. Thunder patrons can park at nearby Thurman Hutchins Park and walk to nearby points to view the fireworks and air show.
- The upper section of Eva Bandman Park will be available for previously registered RV parking. Tent camping and “day of” fee-based parking will be relocated to Champions Park Corridor at Frankfort Avenue and River Road. RV parking is available beginning Friday, April 15, for $200. Campers bringing tents may stay on Friday and Saturday nights for $50. This includes space for one car, not necessarily next to your tent. Additional cars are $15 each. On Saturday, April 17, parking spots at Champions Park Corridor will be available as long as space permits, at a cost of $20 per vehicle.
Eva Bandman Park/Champions Park Corridor is located along the Ohio River near Frankfort Avenue, less than a 10-minute stroll from the eastern edge of Waterfront Park.
Metro Parks staff will be available around the clock. More information and a reservation form can be found online at http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroParks/parks/bandman/
