Independence Week Family Events at Jefferson Memorial Forest

Jefferson Memorial Forest is celebrating the Independence Day holiday week by offering family-friendly activities on July 7.
July 7, 10am to 2pm – Family Canoe Day at Tom Wallace Lake
The family fun will move down to Tom Wallace Lake for a separate event: Family Canoe Day, where families can take a canoe out on the lake, and spend time on the shore learning about the incredible creatures that live below. Forest staff will assist beginning paddlers with the basics and all equipment (canoe, paddles, and personal flotation devices) is provided. This program is suitable for beginning paddlers (ages 5 and up.)
Activities on the shore are free. Canoe rental is $10 (up to 30 minutes); includes brief instruction in paddling if requested. For more information: 502-368-5404

The 6,218 acre Jefferson Memorial Forest, a woodland tribute to those Kentucky veterans who have served our nation during times of war, is Jefferson County’s largest nature preserve and one of the largest municipal urban forests in the nation. The Forest is the flagship of Metro Parks’ Natural Areas Division which is entrusted with providing stewardship, nature-based educational programming, and outdoor recreation within nearly 7,000 acres of forest, meadow, and riparian habitat across Louisville Metro.
