Metro Parks “Fifty and Over” Track & Field Event– May 15

Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation encourages citizens age 50 and older to take part in the Fifty and Over Track & Field Event on Wednesday, May 15. This event, held for athletes from Louisville and the surrounding counties, will take place at DuPont Manual High School, 120 West Lee Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be on a set schedule.

Events:

9:30 a.m. Long Jump

9:30 a.m. 100 Meter Dash

9:50 a.m. 1500 Meter Run

10 a.m. Triple Jump

10:10 a.m. 400 Meter Dash

10:15 a.m. High Jump

10:30 a.m. 800 Meter Run

10:50 a.m. 200 Meter Dash

11 a.m. Racewalks

Noon Shot put

12:30 p.m. Javelin

“Participants in the 50 and Over Track & Field Event Day prove you’re never too old to experience the thrill of competition,” Metro Parks Director Mike Heitz said. “We’re encouraging anyone who feels up to the challenge -- and wants to have a little fun -- to participate.”

Registration forms are available now at www.metro-parks.org/recreation/track.htm, and can also be picked up at the Louisville Tennis Center (3783 Illinois Avenue in Joe Creason Park), along with community centers operated by Metro Parks. Information is also available by phone at 502/574-2831.

Entry forms will be accepted through May 14 at the tennis center, and participants can also register at DuPont Manual High School the day of the event. A one-time $5 registration fee is due when registration forms are submitted. First, second and third place medals will be awarded to winners in each age category.

Metro Parks 50 and Over Track & Field Event follows the rules and regulations utilized by the National Senior Games. National Senior Game rules and regulations can be reviewed at http://nsga.com/media/documents/rules/2013-nsga-games-rule-book.pdf.
