500+ Acres of Historic Farmland Donated
Mayor Greg Fischer today announced the donation of a conservation easement in Oldham County, which ensures that a scenic 524-acre farm will remain forever protected. Edward and Cornelia Bonnie have donated the easement on their Stonelea Farm to the Louisville/Jefferson County Environmental Trust.

The seventh annual Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Hike takes place at Jefferson Memorial Forest Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come out and get your pumpkins, take a hay ride, and hike through the Forest at the height of fall color. The hike is part of the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement, encouraging better health and wellness by highlighting opportunities for increased physical activity.

Roll Out Fitness Event to Help People with Disabilities “Get in the Game” Organizations Team up to Encourage People with Special Needs to Get Active Being a part of a t-ball league, on a basketball team, or in a dance troop is an important part of many people’s lives. But people with disabilities can often be left on the sidelines and miss out on this important part of their development. This year any person with a disability can find out how they can “get in the game” at the fifth Annual “Roll Out” event, Saturday, September 24, from 1-4:00 p.m. at the Crawford Gymnasium of the U of L campus. The event is a collaboration between the Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies, the Spina Bifida Association of Kentucky, Frazier Rehab Institute and Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation.

June 30th public meeting to discuss parks name changes
Two Metro Parks will become incorporated into The Parklands of Floyds Fork, the nearly 4,000-acre parks system being created and managed by 21st Century Parks. Officials with 21st Century Parks and Metro Parks are seeking public input on a name change of two Metro Parks and regarding the project at a public meeting on Wednesday, June 30 at 6 p.m. at the Floyd's Fork Park Community Center, 4002 South Pope Lick Road.

Metro Parks and the Louisville Loop project team are hosting its second in a series of three public meetings to gather information. This meeting will present preliminary concept alternatives for the Pond Creek Corridor Shared-Use Path and Ecological Restoration Plan, which is studying the corridor of the Louisville Loop from Watson Lane to Fairdale. The Louisville Loop is an approximate 100-mile shared-use path that will ultimately encircle the city of Louisville.

Public meetings on Charlie Vettiner Park, Mahoney Property master plans January 24
Metro Parks will host two public meetings on Monday, January 24, to discuss future plans for Charlie Vettiner Park and the 95-acre Mahoney Property, which was purchased by Metro Parks in 2007. The meetings will take place at Farmer Elementary School, 6405 Gelhaus Lane, just north of the Gene Snyder/Billtown Road interchange.
