The Olmsted Parkways Multi-Use Path System project will create improved pedestrian and bicycle opportunities along approximately 10 miles of the parkways that link the major Olmsted parks in Louisville as well as the numerous neighborhoods that are traversed.  The parkways included in this project are Algonquin, Eastern, Southern and Southwestern.  Additionally, the planning effort will explore the ways to link the parkways near the University of Louisville, as intended by Frederick Law Olmsted's original design.

The project is being supported by Louisville Metro Government, the Olmsted Parks Conservancy and several federal multimodal transportation grants.  Metro Parks is pursuing funds through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant program; Surface Transportation Program (SLO) grant program; Section 117 grant program; and Transportation Enhancement Act (TEA-21) grant program, to support future construction of the multi-use path.  Most of these grants will be matched using budgeted Louisville Metro Government funds.
