Mayor’s annual Healthy Hometown Hike takes place Oct. 17
The fifth annual Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Hike takes place at Jefferson Memorial Forest on Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to hiking, visitors can decorate pumpkins to take home, enjoy a hay ride, and trek through the forest at the height of fall color.

Metro Parks taking part in National Public Lands Day with Volunteer Cleanup Sept. 26
To commemorate National Public Lands Day, the Natural Areas division of Metro Parks, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and Metro Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh are hosting a volunteer event at the Beargrass Creek Greenway at Irish Hill on Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Forest offering discount on Summer Camp beginning next week
Jefferson Memorial Forest is offering a 10 percent discount to children ages 7 to 12 who sign up for next week’s Creature Trekking camp, which begins Monday, July 20.

June 6 ceremony to highlight improvements at Waverly Park Lake
Already one of Louisville’s most popular fishing locations, Waverly Park Lake has now become one of its best. Metro Parks officials and District 25 Councilman Doug Hawkins will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 6, at the newly renovated Waverly Park Lake. Visitors will see improvements that include a gravel path around the fishing lake, a new fishing pier and two new picnic shelters, updated fishing areas, expanded parking and newly landscaped grounds.

Metro Parks Celebrates National Trails Day
A new 1.5-mile hiking trail being developed at Jefferson Memorial Forest will, for the first time, connect more than 35 miles of existing hiking trails, but Metro Parks needs your help.
5/6/2009 Fifth Annual Forest Fest to take place May 16 A spectacular day of Bluegrass music, food, craft vendors and youth activities in the scenic environment of America’s largest municipal forest awaits those who visit Jefferson Memorial Forest’s fifth annual Forest Fest on Saturday, May 16. The concert is free, but parking will be $5 per car.
4/21/2009 Jefferson Memorial Forest receives trail revitalization grant Thanks to overwhelming public support, the Louisville Metro Parks Foundation and Jefferson Memorial Forest have been awarded a $5,000 grant by Nature Valley and the American Hiking Society’s Save the Trails initiative for new trail construction.
2/12/2009 Memorial Forest to host Paul Yost master planning meeting Feb. 19 Metro Parks will host a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, to discuss planned improvements to the Paul Yost Recreation Area at the Jefferson Memorial Forest. The meeting will take place at the Forest’s Horine Conference Center, 12304 Holsclaw Hill Road.
