Metro Parks is creating a new master plan to guide future improvements to the 6,191-acre Jefferson Memorial Forest in the Fairdale area. The master plan will develop a detailed vision for future land acquisitions, public facilities and nature/adventure programs at the Forest. This plan also includes identification of a preliminary route and alignment of the paved Louisville Loop trail, which will offer recreation and alternative transportation opportunities. Consulting services are being provided by Jones & Jones. Planning should be complete in Fall 2008.
Funding for this project includes $200,000 from the Louisville Metro Parks Foundation, $80,000 from Louisville Metro Government general funds, and $20,000 from Metro Council members: $9,000 from Vicki Welch (D-13), $5,000 from Rick Blackwell (D-12), $2,000 each from Kelly Downard (R-16) and Madonna Flood (D-24), and $1,000 each from Bob Henderson (D-14) and Dan Johnson (D-21).
This master plan is being developed concurrently with a study of recreational trail opportunities along Pond Creek and Mill Creek (candidates for Louisville Loop connectivity).
