In October 2008, Louisville Metro Parks unveiled a new master plan to guide future improvements to the 6,191-acre Jefferson Memorial Forest in the Fairdale area. The master plan provides a detailed vision for future land acquisitions, public facilities and nature/adventure programs at the Forest. This plan also includes identification of a preliminary route and alignment of the paved Louisville Loop trail, which will offer recreation and alternative transportation opportunities as part of the City of Parks initiative.
Funding for this project included $200,000 from the Louisville Metro Parks Foundation, $80,000 from Louisville Metro Government general funds, and $20,000 from Metro Council members: $9,000 from Vicki Welch (D-13), $5,000 from Rick Blackwell (D-12), $2,000 each from Kelly Downard (R-16) and Madonna Flood (D-24), and $1,000 each from Bob Henderson (D-14) and Dan Johnson (D-21). Consulting services were provided by Jones & Jones.
