Emerson Park Grading and Walkway Project

Construction is scheduled to begin on the Emerson Park Grading and Walkway project the week of April 4, 2011. Work is expected to continue approximately 6 – 8 weeks.

Emerson Park is located at the corner of Hickory and Sylvia Streets in the Schnitzelburg neighborhood. Most of the work will occur in the large open space area in the northern area of the park.

The project will implement the 2nd phase of the Park master plan. The scope of work includes:

  • grading of the open space area at Hickory and Sylvia Streets to remove ‘lumpy’ areas in the lawn and create a smooth consistent soil surface,
  • additional top soil for better lawn establishment,
  • new concrete walkways (historic concrete mix),
  • new site furnishings including- benches, trash receptacles and a bench swing, tree plantings.

EZ Construction is the project contractor. Construction equipment will be parked along the Sylvia Street frontage of the park while the project is underway. EZ employees will also park on the street frontage. No storage or parking will occur along alleys.

Working hours are 7 a.m.  – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The contractors may be on site on an occasional Saturday.

Work will begin with the construction of an access route into the site in the area of the community garden. This route will be reclaimed as sidewalk at the conclusion of the project.

The playground and picnic pad will remain open during the duration of the project. The main area of the park will not be fenced, but practically speaking, it will not be useable until the completion of the project.

The bandstand, dance area, picnic shelter and restroom will be constructed in future phases.
