Working with the public and leaders from neighborhoods and small cities in the southwest part of Louisville Metro, Metro Parks is led a planning effort to identify the recommended alignment of the Louisville Loop through the Pond Creek and Jefferson Memorial Forest corridor from Watson Lane to National Turnpike. The plans for this corridor will accommodate walkers, joggers, cyclists, and – in some sections – bridle trails.

The Pond Creek Corridor Shared-Use Path and Ecological Restoration Plan project was introduced to the public at an open house in October 2010. At the February 2011 public meeting, citizens contributed opinions on multiple potential shared-use path segments and alternative alignments. A third public meeting was held in June 2011 to discuss the three preliminary alternative routes, and public comments then contributed to determination of the draft recommended alignment for the Louisville Loop in this corridor. The final public meeting was held Thursday October 6, 2011, and presented the draft recommended alignment.

The Louisville Loop, a key component of the City of Parks initiative to expand and improve Louisville’s public parks, is a paved shared-use path encircling the city that will measure more than 100 miles when complete. It offers recreational and alternative transportation routes for cyclists, joggers, and walkers. Sections of the Loop will also accommodate horseback riders.
