PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

FLAMENCO PERFORMANCE:

Spanish Dance

Thrill to the sound of the music and be mesmerized by the colorful swirling of dancers in full costume during a real flamenco performance. You will also participate from your seats with rhythmic handclapping (palmas), shouts of encouragement (jaleos), and experience some of the aspects of flamenco dance including arms movements (brazeo) and footwork (zapateado). Audience members will learn about the culture of Spain and elements of dance in the process.

SINGLE FLAMENCO WORKSHOP:

Spanish Dance

Enjoy a whirlwind overview of this unique art form from Spain which includes dance, music, and singing. You will learn about the long tradition of flamenco in Spanish culture, see a live demonstration and try out the elements of flamenco dance and rhythm yourself. This workshop can be adapted for individuals with mobility challenges. (class size is limited to 25)

“FOOTPRINTS IN TIME” PRESENTED BY ERMA BUSH:

Interactive Drama

Experience a cultural and historic, re-creation of the life and times of the African Americans during the 1800s. Knowledge will be gained by all, while the audience interviews Erma through interactive dialogue, as she portrays historical African Americans native to Kentucky. *The content of this shows deals with very serious social and economic issues of that time period.*

GARY BREWER & THE KENTUCKY RAMBLERS

Genre: Bluegrass, Old Time Vintage Country & Acoustic Music

Gary brings his guitar in one hand, and six generations of Bluegrass and Mountain music in the other. From history questions, sing-a-longs, playing “name that tune,” and a bit of comedy, Gary and the Kentucky Ramblers promise to bring foot stompin’ fun to every show for all to enjoy!

MR. MUSTACHE’S MAGIC HOUR:

“Secretly” known as, Ken Neuhauser, columnist with the Courier- Journal; he’s funny, silly and none other than Mr. Mustache, the funny magician! Audience members become instantly engaged and entertained by the silly antics of Mr. Mustache, as he chooses volunteers from the audience to help him perform his magic!!

STORYTELLING WITH CYNTHIA CHARGARIS

Cynthia Changaris tells stories and folktales, from around the world. With her playful engaging style, Cynthia uses a wide range of activities including: folktales, songs, interactive stories, gestures and expressive movement. Have fun being whisked away on a fun adventure this summer

D-11

Genre: Various music types

D-11 is an upbeat, footstompin’, energetic, two piece acoustics group that plays a variety of songs from Bluegrass, Country, Oldies, Rock & Roll and many others. Get ready for some fun during the question and answer session about the music D-11 is playing. Melt away the summer heat with the cool sounds of D-11.

THE MEMPHIS RED HOTS

Genre: Swing Standards, Country, Blues, Folk, Novelty, with a little humor

The Memphis Red Hots are an energetic group that performs Seasonal favorites, Swinging Tunes from days gone by, a little Country, some Blues and even a novelty tune or two thrown in for good measure. Every Red Hots show is a lively good time, with fun for all ages.

RASCALS OF RAGTYME

Genre: Dixieland, Standards, and Swing

The Rascals of Ragtyme have made toes tap and smiles that appeal to all generations. Their hot New Orleans Jazz and Dixieland music will cool you off on a hot summer’s day! The Rascals provide a fun-filled hour for everyone, as they test your knowledge about popular songs, bands, and composers from previous decades

RITA HIGHT PRESENTS: MINNIE PEARL

Genre: Country, Big Band, Standards & Broadway

Rita’s show is sure to please! Her “one woman act” boasts well known music, comedy, and audience participation. In Rita’s rendition of, Minnie Pearl Tells It All, the audience will enjoy clean country humor and beloved country music songs from past decades. Rita and Minnie are sure to help you laugh away those hot summer days.

THE SHOWTIME SENIORS

Genre: Music from the 1930’s & 1940’s, mostly Andrew Sisters Arrangements

Let “Showtime Seniors” liven up your summer with their original variety show featuring a trio, piano player, soloists and comedy monologues. Either singing pastime favorites or reminiscing about the “good old days” the Showtime Seniors are a sure to please on a summer’s day.

SING-A-LONG WITH A DIVA (DONNA MASON)

Genre: Blues & Jazz

This upbeat soloist is sure to brighten your summer days with songs from days gone by. It’s pure magic with the cool tones, songs, trivia and smiles that will chase away the blues.

THE TARI MARTIN SHOW

Genre: Pop 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, and some Classic Country

Get ready to enjoy a “Sentimental Journey” as Tari Martin quizzes the audience with trivia questions and answers about songs she’s singing, and the artists who wrote and/or sang the songs. Singing and dancing to songs from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s will leave you filled with fun memories to last all summer long!

TIMELESS INSPIRATIONAL MUSIC WITH VERMAN WINBURN:

Genre: R&B, Inspirational, Contemporary

Verman performs music that is heart warming, uplifting and inspiring. Verman’s passion for Gospel Music gives hope and joy to all audiences. His show is educational from a historical perspective and by interweaving traditional and contemporary music while incorporating his personal experience.

BLACK TIGER MARTIAL ARTS DEMONSTRATION:

Watch, listen and learn the eight principles of martial arts through a Chuushin Do demonstration. You will discover what martial art does for the mind and body as they teach you to relax by using different breathing techniques. Finish the hour by learning Japanese words and culture used to teach and discipline martial arts students.

DRAMA WITH KEITH MCGILL:

Keith McGill has been an accomplished actor and stand-up comedian for 16 years and has taught acting, stand-up comedy, and improv for over five years. Forget about the summer heat for an hour by learning basic theatre and acting skills, with an introduction to improv. Keith also helps participants understand Shakespeare and modern theatre, as well as, teaching fun, interesting theatre games. He works with various group sizes, age groups, and skill levels. *His program will be adapted to meet the requests of your site.*

JAPANESE STORYTELLING WITH GRAHAM SHELBY:

Take part in a series of Japanese stories through movement and language. Either through Japanese folk tales, ghost stories, or personal experience, Graham will take you through a funny, dramatic, scary and moving hour of fun!

KENTUCKY SHAKESPEARE PERFORMANCE:

Kentucky Shakespeare will visit your center and bring you Shakespeare through performance, dance, visual arts

and acting!

KENTUCKY SHAKESPEARE WORKSHOP (Single visit):

Enrich your summer with hands-on arts activities!! Kentucky Shakespeare will visit your center and bring many fun facts about Shakespeare that you can learn through staging, dancing or drawing!

RIVER CITY DRUM CORP PERFORMANCE:

Come listen and encounter the creative energy of the “Spirit of the Drum!” Ed White and his team will captivate audiences as they teach the history of African drumming, as well as, demonstrating African drumming techniques. Witnessing the creative and unique blend of traditional African rhythms is sure to bring a rich and rewarding experience to all!

THEATRE ACTIVITIES WITH ERMA BUSH:

Erma Bush designs games for all ages to help people open up, get to know each other and feel like part of the group. These games can be used as ice-breakers or just a way to have fun. Games can be designed to cover specific subjects if desired. Sessions and conclude with a mini-skit if desired.
