2008 Metro Parks and Recreation Summer Camps
COMMUNITY CENTER CAMPS June 2 - July 25 Registration will begin April 7, 2008 for all Community Center camp locations. For more information, please contact the camp site of your choice, listed below. Summer Camp information is also available by calling 502/456-8186 or e-mailing us.
Metro Parks' structured day camps provide safe, fun and educational enrichment opportunities. The camps, offered from June 2 to July 25 at Metro Parks community centers and outreach sites, allow children to experience sports, arts and the great outdoors in a wholesome environment.
Most camps begin at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. Camps will not be in session on July 4. Partial scholarships are available at most locations for those who can demonstrate financial need. Residents from outside Louisville Metro can attend Metro Parks camps for an additional $10 per child each week.
To support the City of Parks initiative that is expanding and improving Louisville’s parks, summer camps focus on building participants’ appreciation for nature, parks and green space, while encouraging them to become good stewards of our environment. Arts and craft projects focus on park landscapes and other nature themes. Support for these efforts come from Brightside, Otter Creek Park, and the Metro Parks Special Events Crew.
Teens ages 13 and 14 -- who are too old for some camp programs but too young for summer camp employment -- can attend some camp locations as junior camp counselors. Contact the camp location of your choice for more information.
*NEW* Douglass Community Center will host registration on Monday, April 14, at 8 a.m. for its summer camps.
| Selected camps will have the Environmental Education component incorporated into their programming. Those camps are denoted with the symbol to the right. Students in those camps will learn the value of appreciating nature, conservation, biodiversity and how to be good stewards of the environment. |
 |
| Selected camps will incorporate the Youth Health Initiative Movement. Students in these camps will learn about fitness, food and healthy eating, involving ways their whole family can become active. The Youth Health Initiative is a part of The Mayor's Healthy Hometown Movement. |
 |
| The Reds Rookie Success League will be a component of ALL community center summer camps. Children will learn the basics of baseball and be instructed on the types of life skills it takes to be a major league success! Games and practices will take place during the week at Wyandotte Park. |
