Volunteering for Louisville’s Metro Parks is a great way to give back to your community. Many people don’t realize the scope of our services and the impact they have on our community. Metro Parks is composed of 124 parks, 17 community centers, two senior citizen centers, two historic homes, recreational services for citizens with mental and physical disabilities, and a variety of recreational and athletic programs.
Whether you want to volunteer on your own or you want to involve members of a group or business in a special volunteer project, it's easy to find something to match your interests and your time commitment. Volunteer for a one-time clean up effort, a special event, or volunteer to assist in programming at one of our community centers.
One special avenue neighborhood associations or businesses can consider is becoming one of Mayor Abramson's Adopt-A-Park Program partners. This program is designed to preserve and enhance Louisville's 124 parks. Participants agree to take part in routine volunteer projects like Spring and Fall cleanups, general trash pick-up, and removal of invasive plants four or more times per year. Our Adoption Partners are also invited to assist with special projects that Metro Parks coordinates. These can include painting a community center, helping with new planting areas, building benches, mulching, and assisting with special events that are scheduled to occur in an adopted park.
No matter your interests, join with Metro Parks and help make a lasting difference in your community!
HOW DO I VOLUNTEER?
Individual Volunteers - All prospective individual volunteers must complete a registration form, a workers compensation form, and a record check form. Record checks take approximately two weeks. Once the record check is approved, we will work to place you in your chosen setting, or in a setting best-suited to your needs and talents. This will ensure you have an exciting and rewarding experience with Metro Parks. It's really that easy!
Volunteer Groups - All prospective group volunteers should contact Mike Slaton to schedule their volunteer service. Metro Parks can work with your group to streamline the application process for your volunteers.
