On January 2, 2011, Kenton Buckner was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police and commands the Support Bureau. He is also Unit Commander of the Honor Guard.
He began his law enforcement career in 1993 with
the Louisville Division of Police (LPD).
Buckner worked in the former Fifth District and Street Crimes Unit. He also served on two narcotics task forces with the former LPD. He worked in the Second and Third Divisions, Homicide Unit, Training Academy and Public Integrity Unit. He was unit commander of the Violent Crimes Task Force and also commanded the Special Operations Division.
Buckner is the recipient of four Meritorious Unit Citations, Exceptional Valor and Commendable Merit. He also completed the Spanish Immersion Program and is a Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) certified instructor.
Assistant Chief of Police Buckner has an Associate's Degree in Applied Science from Hopkinsville Community College. From Eastern Kentucky University, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Police Administration and a Master of Science Degree in Safety, Security and Emergency Management. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute.
