On January 2, 2011, Yvette Gentry was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police and is now in command of Patrol Services.
Gentry has been employed with the police department since July 9, 1990. She joined the executive command staff in January 2006 and has served in the following positions:
- Lieutenant Colonel - Assistant Chief of Police, Administrative Bureau
- Major - Second Division Commander
Gentry began her career as a Communications Specialist. She became an officer with the former Louisville Division of Police in 1994. She served in the former 2nd, 3rd and 4th Districts and in the Evidence Technician Unit. She commanded the Second Division and the Administrative Bureau. Deputy Chief of Police Gentry served 8 years in the United States Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1996. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Louisville. Gentry is also a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police conducted by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).
In 1999, Gentry received the Officer of the Year award from the Blue Coats organization. She has also received the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal.
