Lieutenant Colonel Philip Turner

Lieutenant Colonel Phil Turner served 22 years with the Louisville Division ofLieutenant Colonel Philip Turner Police and retired in 1994 as Deputy Chief. He also served in Uniform Operations, Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Intelligence and Inspectional Services.

He began his career in law enforcement in 1972 as an evidence technician with the Jefferson County Police Department.

After retiring from the Louisville Division of Police, Lieutenant Colonel Turner became an Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville where he taught in the Department of Criminal of Justice Administration. He taught Law Enforcement Administration and Law Enforcement issues at the Southern Police Institute, as well as classes on Law Enforcement and Organized Crime in the undergraduate program at the University.

Lt. Colonel Turner was sworn-in to head Operations Bureau #1 on February 6, 2003. His appointment by Chief Robert White makes him a member of the first Command Staff of the newly merged Louisville Metro Police Department.

Lt. Colonel Turner has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University and a Master of Science Degree in Justice Administration from the University of Louisville. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute and the FBI National Academy.

He has two sons.
