Major Dave Wood began his law enforcement career as a military policeman and served in Vietnam. He was a former Kentucky State Trooper and joined the Jefferson County Police Department in 1979. His previous assignments include Homicide Unit, Robbery Unit, Burglary Unit, Traffic, Narcotics/Vice and Internal Affairs.
Major Wood has an Associate degree in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University and a Bachelor's degree in Police Administration from the University of Louisville. In 1993, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
Major Wood founded the Peer Support Team to train officers on how to deal with stress.
In 1982, according to the Courier Journal, Major Wood was able to obtain the "first jury conviction" for manslaughter in Jefferson County from a motor vehicle collision that caused the death of a young child.
In February 2006, Dave Wood was promoted to Major of the Major Crimes Division.
Major Wood is married with a daughter and son.
