Major Ray was hired by the Louisville Division of Police in 1988. He was previously assigned to CIS, David District, Third Division and the former First, Second and Fifth Districts. In 2005, Major David Ray was assigned as the Commander of the Fourth Division. Major David Ray now commands the Special Investigations Division.

Major Ray is a graduate of the University of Louisville, the Southern Police Institute and the FBI National Academy.
