Major Joe Richardson is currently assigned as the Commander of the Third Division.

In 1980, Joe Richardson joined the Louisville Division of Police. During his tenure with the department, he has been assigned to the First, Third and Fourth Districts. He was also assigned to Metro Narcotics and the Robbery Squad. Major Richardson served as the Commander of the Domestic Violence Unit, Sex Crimes, Elder Abuse,  Investigative Support Services and Fifth Division. He served on the SWAT Team for 11 years.

Major Richardson has a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University.

Major Richardson is married with two children.
