Major Kelly Jones is currently assigned as the Commander of the Third Division.
In 1987, he began his career in law enforcement with the former Louisville Division of Police (LPD).
As a patrol officer, he served in the former Second and Third Districts. As a former LPD detective, he served as a polygraph examiner and also helped to form the department's first Domestic Violence Unit. He was a charter member of the first LPD Rapid Anti Disturbance Unit (RAD). As a sergeant with the LPD, Jones served five (5) years in the former Third District. In 1997, Jones was promoted to lieutenant and served in the former Fourth District for two (2) years and also as adjutant to the Chief of Police. He also served as a lieutenant in the former LPD Traffic Bureau.
After merger, Jones was commander of the new LMPD Traffic Unit and then was assigned to the Eighth Division.
Major Jones is a graduate of the University of Louisville and the Southern Police Institute.
