Major Yvette Gentry has been employed with the police department since 1990.

Major Gentry began her career as a Communications Specialist. She became an officer with the former Louisville Division of Police in 1994. She served in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Districts and in the Evidence Technician Unit.

Major Gentry served 8 years in the United States Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1996.

In 1999, Major Gentry received the Officer of the Year award from the Blue Coats organization. She has also received the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal.

Major Yvette Gentry is very active in her church and enjoys being a part of outreach ministries. She is Treasurer for the Shield of Faith and a former president of the Minority Affairs Committee.

Major Gentry is married and has four sons.
