The Youth Academy

The Youth Citizen Police Academy is designed to expose young adults, ages 14 - 17, to the requirements, culture and rewards of a career in law enforcement. The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) has prepared a comprehensive training program to provide participants with an informative overview of the various divisions, units and functions of the police department. Some areas that will be covered during the class are:

  • Patrol
  • Investigations
  • Narcotics Enforcement and Prevention
  • Tour of Metro Corrections
  • Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team
  • Mounted Patrol Unit
  • Canine Unit

Classes will conclude with a graduation ceremony. Successful graduates will take with them a certificate and a greater understanding and appreciation of the LMPD and the role law enforcement officers play in our community.

We offer two (2) Youth Academies during the summer. The academies are held in June and July and are one (1) week in length.
