Police Corporal Fred Richterkessing was shot in the back of the head and killed instantly at 1940 hours. He was a few feet from the southeast corner of 6th and Broadway.
Patrolman George Hanlon was arrested at 6th and York Streets by Patrolmen Berry, Kenealy and McAuliffe on the charge of having committed the murder.
After a rigid examination by Chief Hager and Captain Maher, Patrolman Hanlon continued to assert his innocence. He was finally sent to jail with the charge of murder slated against him.
