Narrative:
On Thursday evening, Patrolman Vance and Patrolman William W. Clark went to the Early Delicatessen Store for lunch on Burnett Street. Patrolman Clark was wounded after confronting Elliott Taylor, who had a knife. Taylor fled after a shooting foray that wounded Patrolman Clark. Patrolman Vance was fatally shot by the fleeing suspect.
Patrolman Vance was survived by his wife and 4 children. He had been with the agency for 23 days.
