COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST (24 hour emergency call center worker)  (EMA/METROSAFE)

This job reports to the Communications Manager. Relocation is not provided and travel is not required. This is a Full-Time position, working 1st Shift, 2nd Shift, 3rd Shift, School Hours, Weekends, Summer.

Overview
Receives and processes incoming informational and emergency calls and provides pre-arrival instructions. Enters data into computer aided dispatch system. Evaluates situations and makes decisions as to the assistance the caller needs based on standard operating procedures and guides. Records calls and refers information to proper authorities. Operates a computer terminal. Queries the National Crime Information Center, Kentucky Law Information Network Systems, and local court or public safety systems for related information. Performs related work.
 
Job Skills/Requirements
High school graduation or its equivalent. Two years of public safety, telecommunications (call-taking and/or dispatching), customer service, or complaint resolution experience, including one year of operating a personal computer. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted as determined applicable by Civil Service.

Additional Information/BenefitsMinimum Salary = $16.53 per hour.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Current users of illegal drugs, those who have bought or sold marijuana within three years prior to their application, and those who have bought or sold any controlled substance or narcotic drug without a prescription within six years prior to their application may be disqualified.

Must be certified as a Law Enforcement Telecommunicator and LINK/NCIC Basic Operator (Full Access) in the State of Kentucky or obtain within six months of employment.
Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher and in Basic CPR from an American Heart Healthcare CPR Provider or must obtain within one year of employment.
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Must be a citizen of the United States.
Must not have been convicted of a felony.
Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis.
Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test.
Must work a varied work schedule.
Must submit to fingerprinting for criminal history check.
Must submit to a pre-employment psychological evaluation.
Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening.
Must submit to a pre-employment audiogram.
