History of First NP
In November 1993, the first pilot multi-service regional center – Neighborhood Place – opened to increase access to social services for community residents in the 40213, 40218 and 40219 zip codes.
The team of service providers that opened First Neighborhood Place had been working with one another, before the center opened, for a year of team building, brain storming and learning about the programs that each agency partner would bring to the center. All of the initial staff all had volunteered to be a part of this ground-breaking initiative and were fueled with a passion and a desire to make the center work. They worked with the first Administrator to determine the hours of service, how customers were to be greeted upon coming into center, how staff would assess the needs of the customer, how the service provision would flow, to whom and how referrals would be made and introducing themselves and the concept to the community at large.
Almost 16 years later, and the success of First Neighborhood Place, there are now 8 Neighborhood Places. The staff of First Neighborhood Place is still passionate about service delivery to meet the ever-increasing social-service needs of the community.
