First Neighborhood Place Back-to-School Fest

Saturday August 8, 2009

Students heading to school this fall are invited to the First Neighborhood Place's 5th Annual Back-to-School Fest for free school supplies, immunizations, health screenings and more.

The event will be held at First Neighborhood Place at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 1501 Rangeland Road, on Saturday, August 8 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Students must bring a parent or guardian.

Families may take advantage of the Resource Fair with information booths such as Passport Medical Insurance, kids' identification, neighborhood boards, voter registration, home-ownership program, Weed and Seed, and the soon-to-open Newburg Library. A school-immunization clinic will be available along with basic health screenings and blood pressure checks.

Representatives from the Census Bureau will explain the importance of getting involved with the next Census count, as well as job opportunities with the Bureau.

The Louisville Free Public Library donated 1,500 backpacks, which will be filled with school supplies. Parents must visit a minimum of 6 booths before receiving school supplies. Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin will be in attendance.

For more information or to volunteer, call Ricky Owens, Thomas Jefferson Middle School Youth Services Center at 485-3889. Sponsors include Jefferson County Public Schools, Weed and Seed, Louisville Metro Government, and Bethlehem Baptist Church.
