Led by neighborhood leaders and professionals, these workshops encourage interactive presenter-participant dialogue and information sharing. Choose one of the workshops below:
D-1 Neighborhood Best Practices
Neighborhood Associations are a vital link to improving and/or maintaining the quality of life of a community. This workshop will highlight “best practices” for neighborhood associations, and a few of the programs/initiatives established by three of Louisville’s most successful neighborhood organizations.
D-2 Government 101
This workshop includes the basics on local government. It will include helpful tips and information on how your association or organization can work with departments of local government.
D-3 Neighborhood Community – A Grassroots Approach
Good communication is essential when community events or neighborhood issues occur. This workshop will explore ways to get your neighborhood’s message out to the people you need to reach most.
D-4 Businesses and Neighborhoods Working Together:
Corridors of Opportunity Program
This workshop will discuss government, residents and businesses partnering together to enhance the quality of life in Neighborhoods.
D-5 Neighborhood Revitalization
Change your community on step at a time! Learn how you can make a difference through community and governmental vision.
D-6 Historic Preservation Districts
Communities throughout the United States have sought to protect, enhance and preserve properties and areas of historical, cultural, archaeological and aesthetic significance through the establishment of Historical Preservation Districts. This workshop will provide general information about the districts in Louisville and Kentucky, and will take a look at one working-class neighborhood which recently chose to become a Historic Preservation District.

E-1 Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers
Gain knowledge on effective ways to obtain and utilize volunteers for your organization. Listen to strategies and best practices by our panelists.
E-2 Inspections, Permits and Licensing – IPL 101
This workshop will provide citizens an opportunity to learn how the code enforcement process works. Find out what constitutes a violation, Understanding the Property Maintenance Code, see actual code violations, learn how to report violations and pick up valuable handouts to share with your association.
E-3 How to Engage Youth
This workshop will focus on youth based initiatives on engaging youth a resource. As a community we must foster the development and support of the youth voice in the decision-making life of our neighborhoods. Neighborhood Youth Board Members will discuss social activities that directly affect the lives of youth and the most effective presentation style to engage young people.
E-4 Meth 101
Methamphetamine is third only to alcohol and marijunana as the drug most used in many Western and Midwestern states. It can cost taxpayers up to $10,000 to clean up a meth lab. Learn from a narcotics detective about the health and fire dangers of meth labs and how you can partner with police to keep your neighborhood safe.
E-5 Neighborhood Assessment Process
The neighborhood assessment process is a resident driven roadmap for a neighborhood with short- and long-term goals; an association must have key organizational structures in place at the planning phase, and basic strategies for implementation to move items from paper to milestone. This workshop will address some key needs for successful execution of an assessment along with a neighborhood association's own story of success in using the neighborhood assessment process.
E-6 A Different View – Interactive Session on Working with the Public Hearing Process
Louisville Metro uses form districts in its zoning/development code to govern the pattern and use of land. This session will highlight the different classifications of form districts, show examples, and discuss how form districts are applied. The main focus of the session will be an interactive activity in which participants will design a site based on traditional form district standards.
