A-1 Successful Meeting Strategies

Discover how ground rules can help your association’s officers and members listen to each other and make conflict more constructive. Learn about the “Six Thinking Hats” technique which illustrates the need for individuals and groups to address problems from a variety of different angles.

A-2 Grassroots Initiatives: Working from the Ground Up

These community leaders have created important options for neighborhood health, housing, and safety. Learn how they have worked for healthy farm-fresh foods in the inner city, successful neighborhood input with housing developers and the wet-dry vote in West Louisville.

A-3 Community Building and Organizing

Asset Based Community Planning helps communities recognize their assets (individuals, local association and institutions) and mobilizes them for development purposes. This workshop will help participants understand how to use key concepts, real life examples and best practices to build and shape their communities.

A-4 Citizen Participation in the Planning Process

Discuss programs and initiatives offered by Louisville Metro Planning and Design Services focusing on the Neighborhood Planning College. This workshop strives to provide participants with a better understanding of the development review process and to assist them in participating more fully in the planning process.

A-5 Louisville 2035 – A Look Forward

Take a look into Metro Louisville’s past, present and future. This workshop will examine how Louisville has evolved over its history and strategize what might happen in the future.

A-6 Transportation Alternatives

Considering today’s fuel and energy costs, everyone is finding that their budgets are feeling the effects. Find out about transportation and energy alternatives with new and creative ways of conservation and the future of transportation.

A-7 How to Amend/Enforce Your Deed of Restrictions

This workshop will highlight some of the legal and practical aspects of amending and enforcing deeds of restriction. Deeds of restriction (also called declarations of covenants or conditions and restrictions) regulate the use of property and provide for maintenance of any common areas in the subdivision.

A-8 Shaking the Money Tree

Looking for new ways to fund your organization? This workshop will present funding strategies that will give participants new ideas for establishing their own self reliant revenue source.

A-9 Foreclosures: Prevention and Resources

This workshop provides information on how the foreclosure crisis impacts our community. Learn what preventative measures and resources are available to those who are directly or indirectly impacted by foreclosure.

B-1 Let’s Party! Planning a Successful Neighborhood Event

The key to any successful neighborhood event depends on the planning. Learn how other neighborhoods and organizations plan their community events.

B-2 Don’t Be a Victim: Personal Safety Tips

You and your neighborhood can be safer by learning these informative and helpful tips from Louisville Metro Police Officers (LMPD). The officers will discuss practical safety measures to safeguard against identity theft and personal safety.

B- 3 Youth Engagement: Partnerships and Programs

Neighborhood leaders are rediscovering that youth are essential contributors to the well-being and vitality of our community. This workshop will focus on youth programs and partnerships that encourage and empower our community’s future leaders.

B- 4 Transitioning Board Members and Officers

Have you ever discovered you don’t know where key documents are kept, or how purchases are decided, or any number critical pieces of history or documentation? If you are the board officer completing your term or the one just elected, this workshop is designed to insure that you can help your group meet its fiduciary, statutory and administrative obligations.

B-5 Financial Planning for Non-Profits

Learn strategies for making your non-profit organization financially successful. This workshop will highlight proven financial strategies and tax tips every non-profit should know.

B-6 Condo / Patio Home Association Management

Knowing the laws that apply to your community association (condo, patio home or homeowner association) is vital to successful management. The panelists will share best practices to consider when to hire a property management firm or to self-manage.

B-7 Suburban Cities: Best Practices

‘Tale of Two Cities’: Learn from representatives of suburban cities what duties the Mayor, Council or Commissioner of 2nd thru 6th class cities perform and how they deliver services. The panelists will discuss the relationship of suburban cities to neighborhood associations, condo/patio home associations and Metro Government.

B-8 Going Green – How to Adopt a “Green” Lifestyle

Adopting a green lifestyle is easier than you think! Learn how local businesses and a neighborhood association have implemented new techniques that encourage environmental friendliness.

B-9 Vacant Properties: Turning a Neighborhood Liability into an Asset

This workshop will provide innovative approaches that neighborhood leaders and associations have used successfully in dealing with vacant lots and structures in their neighborhoods. You will learn about a community-wide collaboration that investigates possible solutions and promotes best practices within the neighborhood.
