District News and Information

District 7 Updates:
Metro Council - Councilman Kenneth Fleming

  • The Brownsboro Road Caring Community, a partnership of members from Broadway Baptist Church, Christ Church United Methodist, Second Presbyterian, and The Temple - serving the poor and homeless in our community - is collecting clean, new or like new items as well as cash donations for distribution to the Home of the Innocents, Open Door Ministry, Volunteers of America, Choice, Inc. Project Women and Wayside Christian Mission.

Metro Council - Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh

  • The Frankfort Avenue Business Association (FABA) has been the backbone of the dramatic, positive change that has made Historic Frankfort Avenue such a vibrant area. FABA’s mission is to enhance the Frankfort Avenue area as a place to do business.  The Association works to stimulate economic development and growth along the business corridor and develop and implement marketing activities that promote and improve the business climate.

  • Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Clifton Center, 2117 Payne Street (Clifton Neighborhood) 10 AM to 4 PM.Bob Yapp, "The House Doctor," as featured on NPR and TV will be at the Rehab Exhibitor Fair which will also have local contractors and architects that are skilled in repair and rehab of historic properties. 

    No registration required.  Sponsored by Metro Louisville Landmarks and Historic Preservation on Session: "Paint It Right" 10-11AM.  Session: "Old windows Aren't a Pane -They're a Goldmine" 11:30-12:30.  Session: "How to Hire & Work with a Contractor" 1-2 PM.
  • Saturday, November 8th Cave Hill 5K Run and 2-mile Parade of Flags Walk, Breckinridge School, 1351 Payne Street across the street from the back entrance to Cave Hill Cemetery

    Come walk or run in memory of the over 2 million U.S. veterans who have fallen in the line of duty. By special arrangement with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Cave Hill Cemetery, the Parade of Flags Walk will traverse through a secluded section of the cemetery past the old Cave Hill limestone quarry, presenting beautiful scenery that most people will never know exists. Walkers will be accompanied by Veterans and Active Duty Military. Each walker will carry a U.S. Grave Flag to place on a Veteran's grave.  1-800-352-4675 or www.flags4vets.com

  • November 15, Reclaiming the Dream: The Story of Rehabilitation for Blinded Veterans from 12:30pm-3pm at American Printing House for the Blind, 1839 Frankfort Avenue

    The event will include a brief history of Mobility and Orientation by Dr. Richard Welsh, a screening of The Long Cane, a sharing of personal stories by graduates of V.A. operated rehabilitation centers, and the unveiling of a unique collection of obstacle detectors and laser canes from the museum’s AER Mobility & Orientation Division/Bledsoe Archives. Program participants will meet professionals who were pioneers in the development of special services available to blinded veterans, hear some of the personal experiences of veterans who have taken part in the programs, and see early examples of electronic travel aids, now part of the museum’s collection and unveiled for public viewing for the first time, on November 15. The program is free, but space is limited. You must register by November 13.  899-2365

  • November 28, F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop, 6pm–10:30pm, Frankfort, Mellwood and Story Avenues.  Tour the many shops and galleries on Frankfort, Mellwood and Story Avenues, hopping on and off the trolley whenever you like.  550-2054 or www.fatfridayhop.org

  • November 30th, Light up Saint Matthews at Brown Park.  Gather with family and friends for the lighting up of one of Louisville’s oldest neighborhoods.  www.smaba.org

District 16 Updates:

  • Tuesday, December 4, Holiday Taste & Business Expo at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park (Freys Hill Road off Westport Road).  Business to Business: 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm and Open to the Public: 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

  • WinterFair Fine Arts Festival, December 5 and 6.  Friday, 2pm-8pm; Saturday, 9am-5pm.  Juried Artists’ Unique Fine Arts & Very Fine Crafts ...Jewelry, Textiles, Pottery, Woodworking, Stained Glass, Paintings, Prints & More at Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church, 4936 Brownsboro Road -- at Rodes and Holiday Manor.

  • Lights Up at The Summit, The Summit lights the night sky with fireworks and holiday lights on Friday, November 21, 2008. Festivities start at 6:30 pm and include holiday entertainment courtesy of North East Christian Church, games and prizes with Radio Disney, a fireworks display, and the arrival of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. There will even be photo opportunities available with Santa. Sleigh Rides with Santa Santa will be at The Summit providing holiday sleigh rides and a photo opportunity. Sleigh rides start on November 20th and run the following dates: November 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 and December 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 and 21. The times are from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm on each of these days. Digital photos are provided
