Holiday Wishes from the Homeless Animals at Metro Animal Services

The holidays are a special timing of giving for most people, however at Metro Animal Services (MAS) everyday seems to be a time for giving, giving up unwanted animals. This year has been exceptionally busy at MAS. Our intake has risen drastically from just over 11,000 in 2005 to well over 14,000 this year. Fortunately along with this increase in intake we have managed to more than double adoptions and transfers to rescue groups. But, that still leaves thousands of animals in need of homes, food, supplies and medical attention.

We’d like to see things turn around for the holiday season and see the animals receive the things they need instead of being forgotten. We realize that many people have some extra time during the holidays to spend at home and that this time of year is an opportune time to add a new cat or dog to the family.

We encourage people to visit MAS first to see the hundreds of animals we have available for adoption. We have the largest number of adoptable animals in one location in the area. We also have a great new free roaming cat room. If you are looking for a new feline friend all you have to do is sit in our “choice chair” and let your new cat think that it is adopting you. It’s really a magical experience as the cats show you their personality and you allow them to think that they are doing the adopting.

If you are searching for gift ideas for the animal lover who has everything, you can make a donation to our building fund in their honor. Or if you would like to donate supplies in their honor you can do that too! We have an endless list of items we need at MAS.

We strive to meet all of the animals’ needs. But, it takes a great deal of effort. We hope that you will find it in your heart to do something that will make a homeless animal’s life that much better this holiday season.
