Holiday Changes to Garbage, Recycling Collection
Friday December 30, 2011
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 30, 2011) – A reminder to residents in the Urban Services District (old city limits) that there will be no garbage, recycling or yard waste collection on Monday, Jan 2, 2012 due to the New Year’s Day holiday. Service for residents with Monday collection will resume the following week.
Typically, following a Monday holiday, garbage, yard waste and recycling collections for the remainder of the week is delayed a day, however, there will be no holiday “day-delay” service next week. Residents will need to place their items out for pickup on their regular collection day.
There will also be no collections on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 because of the observance of Martin Luther King Day and collections for the rest of the week will be on the normal collection day.
Metro Public Works officials made the decision to eliminate the day delay service following these two holidays back in May during the city’s budget hearings. It will save an estimated $50,000 in overtime spending.
Residents outside the Urban Services District should contact their private waste hauler for their holiday schedule.
Metro Public Works also reminds citizens in the Urban Services District that new collection routes will begin when regular service resumes on Monday, Jan. 9th. Mailers indicating trash, recycling and yard waste collection dates for 2012 were sent out to all Urban Services District residents earlier this month.
