Public Health and Wellness Announces Three Staff Appointments

Dr. Matt Zahn, acting director of the Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness recently announced three new staff appointments.

C. Anneta Arno, Ph.D., was appointed the Director of the Center for Health Equity. Established in 2006, the Center for Health Equity works to address the root causes of health disparities and inequities by supporting projects, policies and research to change the correlation between health, well-being and longevity and socioeconomic characteristics and status.

Dr. Arno holds a Ph.D. in Planning, Land Management and Development from the University of Reading in Berkshire England. She has served as the Executive Director of the Community Resource Network in Louisville, as a Project Manager of the TARC T2 Light Rail Project and as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville Center for Urban and Economic Research. Most recently Dr. Arno worked with the Center for Health Equity as a consultant on the Operationalizing Health Equity initiative.

Mary Margaret Lee, D.M.D., was appointed a dentist with the department’s mobile dental unit. Dr. Lee holds a Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. She has served at Family Health Services as well as at several private dental practices in Louisville.

The department’s mobile unit provides adult emergency dental care at locations throughout the area. The department also has a second mobile health unit to provide such services as dental screenings and immunizations to children in schools throughout Louisville. Last year this unit to provided dental screenings to more than 1,700 elementary school students in partnership with Smile Kentucky.

Lavonne White, R.N., M.S.N., M.B.A., was appointed Director of Nursing and Community Health Administrator. She will develop program standards, protocols and quality assurance methods and will direct a major community health services division.

White holds an M.S.N. from Spalding University and an M.B.A. from Bellarmine University. She has served as a Nurse Manager and Assistant Clinical Manager at Norton Hospital and as adjunct clinical faculty at Spalding and Bellarmine Universities.
