Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9) unveiled “Operation Vital Nutrients” on Friday as a new program to provide essential multi vitamin health care to the men and women who are serving in the Kentucky National Guard.
"I am honored to be a part of such an important initiative for our Guard Members who serve us with honor and distinction here in Kentucky,” said Ward-Pugh. “If our efforts provide even the smallest measure of nutritious benefit to these fine people, we have need to be proud."
‘Operation Vital Nutrients’ is a partnership between Nourish America, the Natural Alternatives International (NAI) and the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL). Another important partner is Kentucky’s Adjutant General, Major General Ed Tonini.
Representatives of those agencies were on hand for the formal kick off which was held in Jefferson Square in Downtown Louisville.
NAI is providing multivitamins for one year for all 8,000 National Guard men and women currently serving in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Guard is facilitating distribution of the multi-vitamins to its members through the Kentucky National Guard Family Readiness Groups across the state.
“Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh has really stepped up to the plate to provide for the men and women who serve and protect Kentucky," stated Robin Read, President & CEO of NFWL. "NFWL has partnered with Nourish America and the National Guard on many initiatives and when Councilwoman Ward-Pugh realized that Nourish America could make a significant contribution to Kentucky's citizen soldiers by supporting their health and well-being she requested that Kentucky serve as the pilot state for Operation Vital Nutrients.”
Councilwoman Ward-Pugh serves as Treasurer for the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL); a membership group comprised of women who are state and local legislators and tribal leaders who provide strategic resources to women leaders for leadership development and effective governance through conferences, effective seminars, issue education materials, professional and personal relationships, and networking at both the state and federal levels.
“It is our hope, Operation Vital Nutrients will be one way of saying thank you for your service,” says Ward-Pugh.
