Louisville MetroTV Named Among Country’s Best

Thursday September 7, 2006

For the third year in a row, Louisville Metro Government’s television channel has received national recognition for quality programming.

The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) presented Louisville MetroTV two awards at the 21st Annual Government Programming Awards last month. The awards recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. NATOA received over 1,100 entries representing 180 agencies from 28 states across the country.

“We are excited to receive this recognition for the quality programming about our government and hometown,” Mayor Jerry Abramson said. “MetroTV is a means for us to provide information to residents about their hometown and to encourage people to become more engaged in their local government.”

MetroTV received an honorable mention for “Excellence in Government Programming” which judges a variety of programming throughout the year. This award places MetroTV within the top four channels in the country with similarly-sized budgets. This marks the second consecutive year that MetroTV has received this recognition.

MetroTV’s program “Inside Look: Snow Removal” received a national third-place award for “Profile of a City/County Department”. This category recognizes programming that highlights the resources, services or staff of a city/county department. “Inside Look: Snow Removal” provided an overview of the metro snow team’s efforts to provide snow and ice removal services on our roadways during the winter months.

In the last three years, MetroTV has received an additional 11 national and regional awards for excellence in local programming.
