2007 NATOA Awards

Tuesday October 9, 2007

The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) announced the winners of its 22nd Annual Government Programming Awards. The awards recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. This year, NATOA received over 1,200 entries representing 180 agencies from 31 states across the country and Canada.

NATOA presented Louisville MetroTV with a second place national award for excellence in government programming (budget category $250,000 - $500,000). MetroTV was judged on the variety of programming quality produced throughout the year.

NATOA President Lori Panzino-Tillery, noted that “NATOA is proud to celebrate the important contributions of government access programming in building stronger, tighter knit communities. NATOA members produce the finest quality of programming, easily comparable to that of other networks. In fact, not only does this programming look great, local governments are using this medium to provide pertinent information to their communities on matters that may affect their residents on a much higher and more personal level. This is truly important work in today’s sometimes challenging and uncertain times."

NATOA also presented MetroTV with one additional first place award for interview/talk show programming.

"There is simply no denying that local community and government television programming is thriving and meeting the needs of our communities. Both the number of entries and the scope of subject matter clearly indicate that high production values and the focus on local content are the keys to success,” commented NATOA President Panzino-Tillery.

The entries spanned 63 award categories including, among others, community events, documentary, public affairs and service, interview/talk show, performing arts, sports, election coverage and children/young adults.

MetroTV has previously received 24 national and regional awards for local government and community programming.

NATOA promotes community interests in communications. A national trade association based in Alexandria, VA, NATOA represents local government jurisdictions and consortiums, including elected and appointed officials and staff, who oversee communications and cable television franchising.
