Derby Tie Makes Winning Finish

Mayor Jerry Abramson and Brightside are teaming up once again with local retailer Parallel 38 for a unique fundraiser just in time for Derby. A limited edition of Derby themed ties by Vineyard Vines will be available at the store, located at 3905 Chenoweth Square, beginning April 15th. Customers may pre-order ties now. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Brightside’s beautification programs.
The creation of the Derby tie was a collaboration between Parallel 38 and Vineyard Vines. It features the repeated design of a thoroughbred racehorse and mint julep cup, illustrating the city’s rich Kentucky Derby history. The tie is available in red, dark royal and yellow and only 1000 will be released. The tie will sell for $95 at the retailer and $5 from each sale from each tie will benefit Brightside.
Terri Cardwell, owner of Parallel 38 said “these ties are very limited unlike the official Metro tie that will always be available. We decided to have just a few made to celebrate the Kentucky Derby and thought they would make great Derby gifts.”
This is the second Brightside fundraiser coordinated by Parallel 38. Last fall, the store debuted the official Louisville Metro tie. Those ties are still available. So far, Brightside has received $5,000 from the sale of the specialty Vineyard Vines ties.
“I think the tie really captures the Derby spirit!” Abramson said.

- The Brightside/Citi Community-Wide Cleanup, held on March 29, was the largest single-day event in the history of the organization with over 5,700 registered volunteers.
- While Metro Louisville covers administrative expenses for the agency, all programs and beautification efforts are funded entirely through private donations and sponsorships.
- Since its inception, Brightside has planted over one million daffodil bulbs and over one million flowers in our community.
