Metro Parks extends community center hours to serve teens while school’s out for winter break

LOUISVILLE (December 13, 2005) – During the winter school break, Louisville’s teenagers can take part in recreation programs at several Metro Parks community centers late into the evening, Mayor Jerry Abramson announced today.  For both weeks of winter break, six community centers will be open weeknights until 11 p.m.

“Last year, our community centers provided recreational activities for more than 1,400 teenagers over the winter school break,” said Abramson.  “Funding these extended hours is an investment in the health and safety of our children, as it provides structured programming that keeps kids engaged in positive activities while school is out of session.”

All Metro Parks community centers are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays during winter break.  Extending operating hours until 11 p.m. at six community centers will allow Metro Parks to offer programs targeted at teenagers, including 3-on-3 basketball, line dancing, play station tournaments, health and beauty instruction, roller skating field trips, and more.  Officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department will visit these locations each evening.  For details on extended hours programming at each site, call or visit the community centers listed below.
