Wednesday May 18, 2011
Thousands of Jefferson County Public School students will once again descend on the waterfront and celebrate being active!
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and the Jefferson County Health Promotion Schools of Excellence will hold the fourteenth annual Walk on the Waterfront on Tuesday May 24, beginning at 10:30 a.m. More than 4,000 school children will join with Public Health and Wellness staff members on the two-mile hike.
Pre-walk festivities will be held in Waterfront Park near Witherspoon and Floyd Streets. Walkers will then head east along Witherspoon Avenue to Campbell and then back west along River Road and into Waterfront Park.
Participating schools include Churchill Park, Dawson-Orman, Eisenhower, Greathouse/Shryock, Hazelwood, Indian Trail, Johnsontown Road, Kerrick, Lowe, Medora, Rangeland, Semple, the Academy at Shawnee, Waller-Williams, Wellington and Shacklette.
Walk on the Waterfront promotes walking as a fun, healthy activity for children and adults. There will be mascots, music and fun! Walk on the Waterfront is a Mayor’s Healthy Hometown event.
NOTE TO ASSIGNMENT EDITORS: Please note that this year’s Walk on the Waterfront will begin in Waterfront Park near Witherspoon and Floyd Streets – not at 400 E. Gray.
