For Immediate release:

Councilman Tom Owen (D) 8 is ready to find what some people think about a certain book floating around the library.

The Louisville Free Public Library’s Big Read program is underway for the month of February. Owen will lead a discussion on February 28th about the chosen book, “Their Eyes Were Watching God”

"The Big Read is a celebration of the joy of reading and a thanksgiving for our libraries,” said Owen.

The Big Read involves every library location in the city along with many community organizations. The Library purchased 5,000 of the book to distribute free to public and private high school students.

“This month over ten thousand Louisvillians are reading and discussing a great book,” says Owen. “You can't help but wonder whether that much leavening might cause our entire community to lift its humanity and appreciation of one another."

“Their Eyes Were Watching God,” by Zora Neal Hurston was first published in 1937. It tells the generation story of Janie Crawford and her life in a changing America for African Americans.

Owen will lead a discussion of the book at the Douglas Community Center beginning at 7:00pm.
