Councilwoman Judith Green (D) 1 is issuing an invitation to citizens of West Louisville for a special celebration.

On Saturday, June 2nd Park DuValle: A Celebration of Land and Heritage will honor the rebirth of the former neighborhoods of Southwick, Cotter Homes and Lang. which have become the newly revitalized Park DuValle subdivision.

“Every neighborhood is a special place for all of us and even as we make improvements for our families, we should always remember the history of every part of our community,” says Green.

The Celebration gets underway at 12:00 pm at Russell Lee Park at 34th and Southern Avenue. It will feature music, food and activities for children and adults.

“With the beginning of summer, this is the perfect time for everyone to come out and bring a chair, listen to music and talk,” says Green.

The event will feature an historic photography display of life in Southwick and Cotter and Lang over the years.

Neighborhood Service Awards will be given to current outstanding citizens of District 1, and outstanding former citizens of the “old” neighborhoods. An award will be given to a local business and local church in District 1 that exemplifies good stewardship, and a willingness to make District 1 a better place in which to live.

“I am looking forward hearing about the past from those who made a difference in our District,” says Green.

The Councilwoman will lead a health and fitness walk at 12:30 pm which will provide a chance to see all of the changes in the neighborhood. Those who participate in the walk will receive a Certificate of Achievement from the Councilwoman.

There will also be trolley rides between Russell Lee Park and the Park DuValle Health Center. The Center will offer free cholesterol and blood pressure screening for free and also make other health information available
