“Every neighborhood is a special place for all of us and even as we make improvements for our families, we should always remember the history of every part of our community,” says Green.
The Celebration gets underway at 12:00 pm at Russell Lee Park at 34th and Southern Avenue. It will feature music, food and activities for children and adults.
“With the beginning of summer, this is the perfect time for everyone to come out and bring a chair, listen to music and talk,” says Green.
The event will feature an historic photography display of life in Southwick and Cotter and Lang over the years.
Neighborhood Service Awards will be given to current outstanding citizens of District 1, and outstanding former citizens of the “old” neighborhoods. An award will be given to a local business and local church in District 1 that exemplifies good stewardship, and a willingness to make District 1 a better place in which to live.
